The powders are very finely milled and upon application feel like nothing, they don’t give you this old school powder cakey look, they don’t get into your lines and wrinkles, and in this regard the formulation is absolute top notch. I used it as a bronzer on top of my forehead, cheeks and nose, where the sun would naturally hit my face.

Radiant Light: A sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth, and also extends a summer glow.

I used this one as my highlighter on high points of my face (aka cheekbones, along the nose and brow bones).

Incandescent Strobe Light: An opalescent pearl powder that brightens the complexion with a celestial glow.

Dim Light: A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights a radiant complexion with the perfect balance of warm and cool tones.

The pans are quite deep and are separated by plastic dividers. Inside there is a mirror (which I personally used a handful of times max) and three shades. The packaging doesn’t feel sturdy, I would always bubble wrap it while traveling because I was afraid it might break. It’s made out of plastic and feels really light. When you look at Hourglass promo shots it always looks so sleek and beautiful, and don’t get me wrong, it is beautiful but it’s also bulky. When my palette arrived the first thing that really caught me by surprise is how bulky the packaging is. Additionally all three shades have silicones to smooth out skin.

All three also contain Silica, which is commonly used in makeup and skincare, to absorb oil, prevent light reflection and cakey look of powders. Main ingredient in all three shades is Mica, which recently became a problematic ingredient, – it adds shine, glow and dimension. One thing I can attest to based on all three ingredient lists is that powders have no talc and fragrance, which makes them a) non-comedogenic and b) safe to use for sensitive skin. Ingredients: Since the palette consists of three shades and each has its own ingredients I will not be listing all of them.

Perfume was my greatest cheerer-upper during a downbeat year, and I’ve been sure always to smell good even when feeling bad. I wore it most often in 2020 with Rimmel’s Wonder’Full 24HR Brow Mascara (£7.99 for 5ml). It pushes lashes skywards, manages to add bulk at the roots without making clumps at the tips and sits perfectly still until bedtime.

Trish McEvoy’s High Volume (£22.50 for 5g) dropped through my letterbox a week after my column on the best tubing mascara and forced me to kick myself daily thereafter over the omission.
